WRITING CHAPTER 3: METHODOLOGY [Qualitative Research]

Date of publication: 2017-08-24 18:50

Now that I have started collecting qualitative data (semi-structured interviews, partly based on photographs, partly on topics) I find that my Original Research Questions do not fit to the full the findings. Or, to put it in other words: Are my research questions still the right ones?
I look forward to your replying.

I think the most important thing to say here is: 8775 You need to discuss this with your committee and committees may well differ. 8776 If I were on your committee (and I do serve on many committees for qualitative work) I would say that research questions always evolve as the study progresses. This is certainly true in qualitative research, perhaps not quite as true in quantitative research. You should regard your original questions as nothing more than a point of departure, not as an iron-clad contract. In fact, I would go further and say that you don 8767 t make a final decision about what your study is all about until you publish it and you may still be revising your ideas for several years after that!

Methods Section: Chapter Three - Statistics Solutions

The recent proliferation of online Universities offering PhD degrees (such as NCU, Capella, UoP, etc) has led to the situation of students often being ill-prepared to complete the dissertation process without seeking outside assistance from a dissertation consultant who is familiar with the specific processes followed at these schools. Since expanding our client base to include PhD candidates, we have helped these students save tens of thousands of dollars in tuition, while graduating months earlier than their peers. Offering dissertation help to PhD candidates is now one of the top priorities of our firm.

b. Your major professor/adviser/chairperson is your ally. When you go to the committee for reactions to your proposal make sure your major professor is fully supportive of you. Spend time with him/her before the meeting so that your plans are clear and you know you have full support. The proposal meeting should be seen as an opportunity for you and your major professor to seek the advice of the committee. Don't ever go into the proposal meeting with the feeling that it is you against them!

While there are many different research philosophies you can adopt, three of the most popular are positivism, post-positivism and interpretivism. Each is suitable for a different sort of study, and each involves different assumptions about the world (ontology), how we know that world (epistemology) and the nature of knowledge.  The following table sums up key details about each philosophy, and should help you decide which is most useful for your area of study.

Usually a guide of this nature focuses on the actual implementation of the research. This is not the focus of this guide. Instead of examining such aspects as identifying appropriate sample size, field testing the instrument and selecting appropriate statistical tests, this guide looks at many of the quasi-political aspects of the process. Such topics as how to select a supportive committee, making a compelling presentation of your research outcomes and strategies for actually getting the paper written are discussed.

In this section you have to explain very clearly how you arrived at your findings and state clearly why they are reliable and how they answer your research questions or test the hypotheses on which your research was based..

75. Another simple rule - if you have a whole series of very similar tables try to use similar words in describing each. Don't try and be creative and entertaining with your writing. If each introduction and discussion of the similar tables uses very similar wording then the reader can easily spot the differences in each table.

78. Review two or three well organized and presented dissertations. Examine their use of headings, overall style, typeface and organization. Use them as a model for the preparation of your own dissertation. In this way you will have an idea at the beginning of your writing what your finished dissertation will look like. A most helpful perspective!
