If you were to write one great sentence in your essay, this should be it. The thesis statement is the main idea of your argument. The rest of your essay will be built on this claim, so it needs to be stated clearly and commandingly. For example: “In this essay, contrary to conventional academic opinion, I argue that Thomas Hobbes should not be considered a liberal.”

Pull your reader into the essay by getting their attention. Fascinating anecdotes, surprising statistics, and interesting quotations are all good tools to make your reader feel invested in the essay. You hit the nail on the head with your comment. I think people do what feels safe (myself included). Sometimes this works out, and we are rewarded for our efforts especially if you have an application that shines in other places. Sometimes (possibly) PA schools like 8775 safe 8776 . But 8775 safe 8776 (as it was in my case) can leave you with a stack of rejection letters. The personal statement is the only chance we get to reveal our personalities, so it should be used wisely.
I wrote a blog post a while back about how to get into the PA school of your choice. Part of my recommendation was to throw caution to the wind and apply with your heart and not your mind. This as you know, is easier said than done.
This is an excellent list because eight years ago while I was applying to PA school I proved how adhering to each one of these elements was a guaranteed formula for failure.
Off-the-cuff writing is my forté, and while I certainly appreciate the ability to write a polished essay, I find that as I 8767 ve gotten older I would rather communicate in a more conversational and relaxed tone. That 8767 s certainly the type of doctor I would like to be, and to which I am drawn. People are not spell-checked in the real world.
